HiLux
Durability
Toyota HiLux is known for being unbreakable. Its reliability, endurance and performance are legendary. Yet, along with its phenomenal build-quality, its unbreakable-reputation stems from the sophistication and quality of its engineering.
An array of advanced features ensure that every HiLux is built to last and that it will remain unchallenged as Australia's most popular and durable ute.
Structurally, HiLux includes rust resistant panelling (with under-body protection plates and sidesteps on 4x4s), a rigid body, a one-piece chassis with a thick side rail and a high-quality latch and pole type tailgate on a larger deck. Its durability is built into both the advanced VVT-i petrol engine and the electronically controlled common rail injection turbo diesel, plus the stainless steel exhaust and muffler, inner & outer protection layers sealing the fuel tank (petrol), the long-life diesel fuel filter and the sound and vibration proofing.
Power & performance
The Toyota HiLux has impressive power across the range. It produces excellent handling and stability and attention is paid to high-speed maneuverability and handling dynamics. Three different engines provide excellent acceleration from take-off and offer smooth response when accelerating to pass in the mid to high-speed ranges, even while towing or carrying a load.
The 2.7 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine delivers 116kW of power (240Nm torque)^ and the 4.0 litre V6 petrol engine delivers 175kW (376Nm torque auto / 343Nm torque manual). Both petrol engines have VVTi (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) technology for improved efficiency and performance. Equally impressive is the 3.0 litre Electronic Direct Injection (EDI) turbo diesel with 126kW of power (and a thumping 343Nm torque!)^.
Rigorous global safety programme
Toyota established the Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) passive safety assessment programme to ensure that Toyota's tough safety standards are met.
As a result, HiLux's design and construction satisfies Toyota's stringent passive safety guidelines with an impact absorbing cabin complete with side door anti-intrusion beams and a Head Impact Protection Structure (HIPS), so it helps absorb impact. There is also a cross member at the front end of the frame, helping prevent smaller vehicle intrusion.
